In 1993, Frank and his wife, Pat, were shopping for gifts at an art and craft show when they came upon some pottery.  Frank commented how he had always wanted to be able to “throw from the wheel.”  The potter heard him and invited him to take classes she taught.
That was all it took!
Frank and Pat started JOY POTTERY in 1995 and in 1998 Frank retired from thirty years of teaching science and began making pottery full time.  They credit their Lord Jesus for all of their success and for the many wonderfully unique bird and garden items they make.  In fact, their business name reflects their trust in Him; the letter “J” of JOY stands for Jesus and “O” for Others and “Y” for yourself.  By putting things in this order, they have found life’s events fall in place fairly well!  Their faith, family, friends, and business contacts are very important to them!  Here is Frank at the wheel creating a birdbath jug along with a photo of their booth.

Since 1995, FRANK HAS been creating unique garden and bird items out of clay.  His work reflects the simple forms of pottery he remembers his grandmother and mother using in their homes when he was a child. His work consists of very basic and functional shapes with glazes that range from bright and cheery to warm and earthy.  Learning this craft while still teaching science to seventh graders, Frank found throwing pots to be VERY cathartic – ESPECIALLY after a grueling day in the classroom.
frank and pat thank you for being loyal customers for these past 16 years. god bless you all.
